Drug Addiction in Massachusetts

Heroin is the main drug addiction here, with opiate painkillers and cocaine following close behind. In 2010, about 30,000 people were admitted to MA drug rehabs for heroin alone. That’s more than double the admissions for every other drug combined.

Recently, heroin laced with Fentanyl, a combination that is ten to one hundred times stronger, has resulted in countless deaths throughout Massachusetts. MA’s rate of drug-induced deaths is already extreme and greater than the national average. Drugs in Massachusetts kill people more than twice as much as car accidents and four times as much as firearms.
