Drug Addiction in New Hampshire

Opiate addiction is the prime culprit for drug-related deaths in New Hampshire. Its 15% rate of non-medical use of painkillers among young adults is also the highest in the entire nation. Opiates, which include heroin addiction and pharmaceutical painkillers, account for about two-thirds of the state’s admissions to drug rehabs. Recently, there have been both nationwide and statewide efforts to regulate painkillers. However, these efforts have only turned addicts toward heroin. This has led the state’s heroin-related deaths to double between 2012 and 2014.
