While meth and cocaine addiction are common in Tennessee, its number one drug of choice is opiate painkillers. In 2013, it was actually the 2nd worst state for non-medical use of painkillers. At about 2,250 in 2010, there are over twice as many admissions into Tennessee drug rehabs for opiate addiction as there are for marijuana addiction.

Tennessee is also a hot spot meth addiction and production. Every year, authorities seize quantities of meth labs that number in the hundreds. In 2013 alone, about 1,600 meth labs were seized.
